This 1936 silver half dollar commemorates the one hundredth anniversary of Arkansas joining the United States. Struck at the San Francisco mint, the coin contains 0.3617 troy ounces of silver with a purity of 90 percent. Its design offers a fascinating visual journey through a century of statehood. The front of the coin, which bears the "S" mint mark, showcases two overlapping profiles. An Indigenous chief representing 1836 is paired with a young American woman from 1935, symbolizing the passage of time and the growth of the state. This obverse side was designed by Edward Everett Burr, with the physical models prepared by Emily Bates. On the reverse, a majestic eagle stands positioned before the Arkansas state flag. The inscriptions on this side include the country of origin, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", alongside the denomination "HALF DOLLAR". The coin also displays the traditional mottos "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM", celebrating both local pride and national unity.
