1936-S Arkansas Centennial Half Dollar MS-64 PCGS

0.3617 troy oz .900 1936 MS-64 (PCGS)

Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this 1936 silver half dollar commemorates one hundred years of Arkansas statehood. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3617 troy ounces of the precious metal. This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 64 (MS-64) and displays a delicate, original toning across both of its surfaces, highlighting the artistic details of its design. The obverse of the coin presents a dual portrait layout, showing the overlapping profiles of a Native American chief from 1836 and a young American woman from 1935. This side also bears the San Francisco 'S' mint mark, along with the dual dates of the centennial celebration. The models for this striking imagery were prepared by Emily Bates, based on the original designs by Edward Everett Burr. On the reverse, a powerful eagle is depicted standing before the Arkansas state flag. The design incorporates the classic inscriptions 'UNITED STATES OF AMERICA' and 'HALF DOLLAR'. With a limited mintage of just 9,662 pieces, this mid-century commemorative coin offers a fascinating glimpse into the artistic style and regional pride of the 1930s.
