1936-S Cincinnati Commemorative Half BU

0.3617 troy oz .900 1936 Brilliant Unc

In 1936, the San Francisco Mint struck a remarkably limited run of silver half dollars to honor Cincinnati as a musical center. With a tiny mintage of just 5,006 pieces, this issue stands as a highly prized find for those who appreciate scarce United States coinage. Each coin contains 0.3617 troy ounces of silver, minted with a purity of 90 percent. The obverse of the coin showcases the profile of Stephen Foster, celebrated on the design as America's troubadour. This portrait was created by Constance Ortmayer. The inscriptions surrounding the bust include the words "STEPHEN FOSTER" and "AMERICA'S TROUBADOUR", alongside the legal tender value of "HALF DOLLAR" and the traditional mottoes "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "LIBERTY". On the reverse, a symbolic kneeling female figure represents the Goddess of Music, holding a lyre to represent the city's artistic heritage. This side also displays the dual dates of 1886 and 1936, the national motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". Preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, this coin offers a beautiful glimpse into the commemorative programs of the mid twentieth century.
