Struck in the mid 1930s at the San Francisco Mint, this ten-cent silver piece represents a classic era of American coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal, the coin is widely celebrated for its artistic merit and distinct imagery. The front of the coin showcases a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design element that famously led the public to mistake her for the Roman messenger god Mercury. This side also bears the date 1936 and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST." On the reverse side, the design transitions to a bundle of rods bound around an axe, known as a fasces, which is paired alongside a leafy olive branch. These symbols represent strength and peace. The back also features the "S" mint mark, indicating its origin in San Francisco, alongside the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DIME," and the Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
