In 1936, the United States Mint produced a special silver half dollar to mark a historic milestone for Wisconsin. This commemorative coin, struck in 0.900 fine silver with a total precious metal content of 0.3617 troy ounces, is a fascinating artifact from the mid-century era. With a limited production of only 25,015 pieces, this particular specimen is certified in Mint State 64 (MS-64) condition, preserving its original artistic details. The obverse of the coin showcases a detailed badger, the state's signature animal, shown in profile as it rests upon a log. This side also incorporates the traditional national mottoes, including the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST." On the reverse, the design presents the historic seal of the Wisconsin Territory. This imagery features a disembodied arm raised aloft, grasping a pickaxe directly above a pile of raw lead ore. The design elements, crafted by artist Benjamin Hawkins, pay tribute to the early mining heritage of the region. The inscriptions reference the territorial foundation date, noting the fourth day of July in the year 1836.
