Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1937, this ten-cent piece represents a classic era of United States coinage. Known widely as the Mercury Dime, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. This particular specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the sharp details of its original minting. The obverse of the coin, created by designer Adolph Weinman, features a young depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This headwear, which historically symbolized freedom of thought, led to the popular but mistaken identification of the figure as the Roman messenger god, Mercury. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "1937". On the reverse, Weinman's design displays a fasces, a traditional symbol of authority consisting of a bundle of rods bound around an axe, paired alongside an olive branch to represent peace. The reverse inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination "ONE DIME".
