The 1937-S Mercury Dime is a classic example of United States silver coinage from the interwar era. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this ten-cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. It represents a period of refined artistic expression in American circulating currency, preserved here in Extra Fine condition. Designed by Adolph Weinman, the obverse of the coin features a youthful representation of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This distinctive headgear often led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god, Mercury, giving the series its popular nickname. The obverse also bears the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "1937." On the reverse, the design displays a fasces bound with an olive branch, symbolizing strength and peace. The legends "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DIME," and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" encircle the central motif. A small "S" mint mark is visible, denoting its origin from the San Francisco facility.
