1938-D Buffalo Nickel MS-66 NGC
The 1938 Buffalo nickel struck at the Denver Mint represents the final year of this celebrated United States coin series. This particular specimen is certified in an exceptional Mint State 66 condition, preserving the intricate details of a classic American design. The obverse presents a dignified profile of a Native American facing right, accompanied by the legible inscription of the word LIBERTY near the upper right rim. On the reverse, a massive American bison stands atop a raised mound, filling the center of the coin. The traditional Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is positioned above the animal's back, while the face value of FIVE CENTS is clearly visible along the bottom border. Created by designer James Fraser, this five-cent piece is a remarkable survivor from a mintage of 5,376,000 coins struck in Denver during that final production year.
