Struck in the late 1930s at the Denver Mint, this ten-cent piece represents a classic era of American coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, the coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. It remains a favorite among enthusiasts who appreciate the artistry of mid-century United States currency. The obverse of the coin showcases a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design element meant to represent freedom of thought. Surrounding this central figure are the word LIBERTY and the national motto IN GOD WE TRUST. This distinctive headgear led to the popular, though technically incorrect, nickname of the Mercury Dime due to its resemblance to the Roman messenger god. On the reverse, the design transitions to symbols of strength and peace. A traditional fasces, which is a bundle of rods bound around an ax, is paired with an olive branch. The inscriptions on this side include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the denomination ONE DIME, and the Latin phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM.
