1938-D Mercury Dime XF
Struck at the Denver Mint in 1938, this ten-cent piece is a classic example of United States silver coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, it contains 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. This issue is highly regarded for its detailed artistry, preserved here in Extra Fine condition. The obverse features a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This distinctive headwear often led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god, Mercury, giving the series its famous nickname. The legend "IN GOD WE TRUST" is clearly visible alongside the 1938 date. On the reverse, the design presents a fasces entwined with an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DIME" frame the central image, accompanied by the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the "D" mint mark, which indicates its origin from the Denver facility. The design was originally created by Adolph Weinman.
