The 10 cent piece minted in 1938 stands as a classic example of United States coinage from the early twentieth century. Struck in 90% fine silver, this coin contains approximately 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. It is commonly referred to as the Mercury Dime, though the central figure is actually a young personification of Liberty. This specimen is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, retaining much of its original luster and sharp detail. On the obverse, Liberty wears a Phrygian cap adorned with wings, a design element intended to represent freedom of thought. The words "IN GOD WE TRUST" are clearly visible beneath her chin, with the date 1938 positioned at the bottom of the field. This iconic portrait was created by the renowned sculptor Adolph Weinman. Turning to the reverse, the coin displays a fasces, a traditional bundle of rods bound around an ax, which is closely intertwined with a leafy olive branch. These contrasting elements symbolize the nation's readiness for defense alongside a deep desire for peace. The Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is inscribed in the right field, while the denomination "ONE DIME" anchors the bottom of the design, completing a powerful visual narrative.
