Struck at the Denver Mint in 1939, this ten-cent silver piece is a stunning example of United States coinage from the mid-century era. Crafted from 90 percent silver with a precious metal weight of 0.0715 troy ounces, the coin is preserved in an exceptional Mint State 66 condition, highlighting the intricate details of its original engraving. The obverse features a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design element originally conceived by Adolph Weinman. This distinctive headwear, which historically symbolized freedom of thought, led to the popular, though incorrect, nickname of the Mercury Dime. Legible inscriptions on this side include the year 1939 and the classic motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. On the reverse, the design presents a fasces, representing strength and unity, alongside an olive branch, which symbolizes peace. The Denver origin is marked by the letter D. The surrounding legends read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DIME, accompanied by the traditional Latin phrase, E PLURIBUS UNUM.
