The 1939 ten-cent piece stands as a remarkable example of American coinage from the era preceding World War II. Struck in 90 percent silver at the Philadelphia Mint, this particular specimen has achieved an exceptional MS-67 grade, indicating its superb state of preservation and the crispness of its original details. Designed by the celebrated sculptor Adolph Weinman, the obverse of the coin features a youthful representation of Liberty. She wears a traditional Phrygian cap adorned with wings, a powerful motif intended to symbolize freedom of thought. The words "IN GOD WE TRUST" are inscribed alongside the 1939 date. The reverse of the coin presents a contrasting yet harmonious set of symbols. A bundle of rods bound around an ax, known as a fasces, represents strength and unity, while an entwined olive branch signifies peace. The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DIME," and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" frame the central design. Because this piece was produced in Philadelphia, it does not bear a mint mark, leaving the space clean and highlighting the balance of Weinman's artistry.
