Struck in the era just before the onset of the Second World War, this 1939 ten-cent piece represents a classic era of United States coinage. Minted in San Francisco, as indicated by the subtle S mint mark, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. It survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the crisp details of its celebrated artistry. The obverse of the coin displays a youthful profile of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This distinct headwear often led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god, giving rise to the popular Mercury Dime nickname. Surrounding the portrait is the inscription IN GOD WE TRUST alongside the 1939 date. On the reverse, the coin features a fasces bound with an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. This side bears the traditional national mottos and inscriptions, including E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, alongside the denomination of ONE DIME.
