1939 Walking Liberty Half Dollar Proof-64 PCGS

In 1939, the Philadelphia Mint produced a remarkably small run of proof coins, including a limited number of the iconic Walking Liberty half dollars. With a total mintage of just 8,808 pieces, these special strikes were crafted with extra care, resulting in sharp details that are rarely seen on standard circulating coinage of the era. Because they were minted in Philadelphia, these coins do not bear a mint mark. The obverse of this ninety percent silver coin features the graceful figure of Liberty moving toward the dawn, enveloped in the folds of the American flag. The inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "1939" are cleanly struck on this side. On the reverse, a powerful eagle stands with its wings unfolded, accompanied by the traditional legends "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and the denomination "HALF DOLLAR." This particular specimen is preserved in an exceptional state of preservation, graded as a Proof 64. It contains approximately 0.3617 troy ounces of pure silver, making it a brilliant example of mid-century American numismatic artistry.
