The 1940 ten-cent piece from the Denver Mint represents a classic era of United States coinage. Struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal weight of 0.0715 troy ounces, this coin is popularly known as the Mercury Dime. This example remains in an impressive state of preservation, classified as Almost Uncirculated. Adolph Weinman designed the striking imagery on both sides of the coin. The obverse presents a youthful personification of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a symbol that historically represents freedom of thought. Surrounding this central figure are the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "1940". The reverse design contrasts strength with peace, displaying a traditional Roman fasces alongside a leafy olive branch. The legends "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "ONE DIME" are clearly visible on this side, along with the distinctive "D" mint mark representing its origin at the Denver facility.
