Struck in 90% fine silver, this 1940 ten-cent piece showcases one of the most celebrated designs in United States coinage history. Minted in Philadelphia, the coin is preserved in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, allowing its original luster and sharp details to remain as clear as the day it was struck over eight decades ago. The obverse features a youthful representation of Lady Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a powerful symbol of freedom of thought. This distinctive headwear led to the popular nickname "Mercury Dime," as the wings resembled those of the Roman messenger god. Surrounding the portrait is the bold inscription "LIBERTY," accompanied by the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the 1940 date. On the reverse, the coin displays a fasces, which is a bundle of wooden rods wrapped around a battle axe, representing strength through unity. An olive branch is delicately entwined around the fasces, symbolizing a desire for peace. The reverse inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "ONE DIME," and the Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
