In 1941, the San Francisco Mint struck more than 43 million dimes featuring one of the most celebrated designs in American coinage. Known popularly as the Mercury Dime, the coin actually depicts a youthful Lady Liberty on its obverse, wearing a winged Phrygian cap that represents freedom of thought. The reverse displays a fasces, an ancient symbol of authority and strength, intertwined with an olive branch that represents peace. This particular silver piece, composed of 90 percent silver, has survived the decades in remarkable condition. It has been certified in Mint State 66 (MS-66) with Full Bands, indicating an exceptionally sharp and complete strike on the reverse design elements. The legible obverse inscriptions include the year 1941 and the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST."
