Struck at the San Francisco Mint during a pivotal year in global history, this 1941 silver ten-cent piece is a remarkable survivor of United States coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.0715 troy ounces, the coin is preserved in an exceptional Mint State 66 condition, showcasing the intricate details of its classic engraving just as it emerged from the coining press. The obverse features a striking portrait of Liberty adorned with wings in her hair, a design element intended to symbolize freedom of thought. This iconic imagery, created by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, led to the popular, though technically incorrect, nickname of the Mercury Dime due to its resemblance to the Roman messenger god. Accompanying the portrait is the legible inscription of the national motto, IN GOD WE TRUST. On the reverse, the design presents a fasces wrapped in an olive branch, representing both strength and peace.
