1941 Walking Liberty Half Dollar MS-63 PCGS (Rattler)

0.3575 troy oz .900 1941 MS-63 (PCGS)

The 1941 Walking Liberty half dollar is a remarkable example of American silver coinage, struck in 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.3575 troy ounces. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin does not bear a mint mark, which was the standard practice for the facility at the time. This particular specimen has been certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63), preserving the intricate details of its celebrated mid-century design. On the obverse, the figure of Liberty is depicted in mid-stride, moving gracefully toward a rising sun. She carries a bundle of branches while draped in the folds of the American flag. The design is accompanied by the inscription IN GOD WE TRUST and the year 1941. The reverse features a powerful eagle perched upon a mountain crag, wings slightly spread as if preparing to take flight, alongside the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. Designed by sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, this coin represents a high point in United States coinage aesthetics. Out of a total mintage of 24,192,000 pieces struck in Philadelphia that year, finding examples that survive in such a well-preserved, graded state offers a wonderful window into the craftsmanship of the era.
