Struck during a pivotal year in global history, this 10 cent coin from 1942 represents a classic era of United States coinage. Minted in Denver, as indicated by the D mint mark, the coin is composed of 90% silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. It survives today in an Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its original engraving. The obverse of the coin displays a youthful representation of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design element intended to symbolize freedom of thought. Surrounding this central figure are the legible inscriptions of the national motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the 1942 date of manufacture. This distinctive portrait was created by the artist Adolph Weinman. On the reverse, the design transitions to a powerful combination of peace and strength. A traditional fasces, representing authority and unity, is bound alongside an olive branch, the universal symbol of peace. The inscriptions on this side include the issuing country, "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination, "ONE DIME".
