1942-D Mercury Dime BU

0.0715 troy oz .900 1942 Brilliant Unc

Struck during a pivotal year in mid-century history, this 1942 silver dime from the Denver Mint is a remarkable example of American coinage design. Minted in 90 percent pure silver, the coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal and displays the crisp details characteristic of a Brilliant Uncirculated specimen. The obverse features a youthful depiction of Lady Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design element intended to represent freedom of thought. Surrounding this portrait are the traditional inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date of 1942. On the reverse, the coin displays a fasces, which is an axe bound by a bundle of rods, positioned alongside an olive branch. These symbols represent strength and peace. The reverse also bears the Denver "D" mint mark and the legends "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and "ONE DIME".
