The 1942 silver dime struck at the Denver Mint stands as a classic example of twentieth-century American coinage. Minted during a pivotal year in global history, this ten-cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. Out of a total mintage of 60,740,000, select specimens have survived in exceptional condition, such as this example certified in Mint State 66 with highly defined details. Designed by Adolph Weinman, the coin's obverse displays a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This distinct headgear often led the public to mistake the figure for the Roman messenger god, giving rise to the popular "Mercury Dime" moniker. On the reverse, the design presents a fasces entwined with an olive branch, symbolizing both readiness and a desire for peace.
