The 1942 half dollar stands as a remarkable example of mid-twentieth-century American coinage. Minted in San Francisco, this silver piece contains 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal. It has been certified in Mint State 63 (MS-63) condition, preserving the intricate details of a production run that totaled 12,708,000 coins. Designed by Adolph Weinman, the coin features a celebrated obverse illustration of Liberty. She is depicted in mid-stride, moving toward a rising sun while cradling branches of laurel and oak, with the American flag draped gracefully around her shoulders. The inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" is visible alongside the 1942 date. On the reverse, a powerful eagle is shown perched upon a mountain crag, wings slightly unfolded as if preparing for flight. This side displays the traditional motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and the denomination "HALF DOLLAR" under the authority of the "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". The San Francisco mint mark "S" is also present, identifying its origin.
