Struck during a pivotal year in the mid-twentieth century, this 1942 silver half dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. Surviving in Extra Fine condition, it showcases the detailed artistry that defined United States circulating currency of the period. The front of the coin displays Adolph Weinman's celebrated depiction of Lady Liberty moving gracefully toward a rising sun. She carries a bundle of branches, symbolizing peace and strength, while the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "1942" are clearly visible. On the reverse, a powerful eagle stands perched on a rocky outcrop, wings slightly spread as if preparing to take flight.
