During the height of World War II, a remarkable numismatic collaboration took place between the United States and the Philippines. In 1944 and 1945, the San Francisco Mint produced these silver 50 Centavos coins, which contain 0.2411 troy ounces of silver at a purity of 0.750. This wartime coinage represents a unique chapter in shared global history, minted in America for use in the Pacific. The obverse of the coin displays a powerful allegorical image of a standing woman holding a hammer beside an anvil. In the background, the distinct, symmetrical cone of Mount Mayon rises. This side features the clear inscriptions "FIFTY CENTAVOS" and "FILIPINAS". On the reverse, an eagle rests atop a shield, accompanied by the date and the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA". These specimens survive in impressive About Uncirculated to Brilliant Uncirculated condition, offering a crisp look at the fine details of this mid-century design.
