This silver ten-cent piece from 1944 stands as a remarkable example of mid-century American coinage. Struck at the Denver Mint, the coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. It has achieved a high certified grade of Mint State 66, indicating its exceptional preservation and lustrous details from the year of its mintage. The obverse of the coin displays a striking portrait of Liberty, depicted with wings in her hair to represent freedom of thought. This design, created by Adolph A. Weinman, is often referred to as the Mercury Dime due to the resemblance of the winged cap to the Roman messenger god. On the reverse, the central motif is a fasces, a bundle of rods bound around an ax, which is enveloped by a leafy olive branch. This side also bears the distinctive "D" mint mark, indicating its origin from the Denver facility.
