Struck in Denver during the penultimate year of the Second World War, this ten-cent piece is a brilliant representative of one of America's most celebrated circulating designs. Composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0723 troy ounces of precious metal, the coin is a testament to mid-twentieth-century craftsmanship. It has been certified in Mint State 66, indicating its superb state of preservation and the retention of its original luster. The obverse presents a striking portrait of Liberty, distinguished by the wings nestled in her hair, which was intended to represent freedom of thought. Alongside her profile, the classic inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "1944" are clearly legible. This side was modeled by the sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, who brought a fresh, modern aesthetic to American coinage during this era. On the reverse, Weinman's design features a traditional fasces, a bundle of rods bound around an ax, which is enveloped by a leafy olive branch. This symbol of strength and peace is accompanied by the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". This specific specimen has earned the coveted Full Split Bands designation, meaning the horizontal leather straps binding the fasces are completely defined and separated, a rare feat that proves the coin was struck with immense pressure and precision.
