Struck during the final years of World War II, this 1944 ten-cent piece from the Denver Mint represents a classic era of American coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal, the coin is widely celebrated for its artistic design, which was originally created by Adolph Weinman. The obverse displays a youthful personification of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a representation that historically led the public to mistake her for the Roman messenger god Mercury. Accompanying her profile are the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the 1944 date. On the reverse, the coin features a fasces, a bundle of rods bound around an ax, positioned alongside an olive branch. These symbols represent strength and peace. The reverse inscriptions include "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the denomination "ONE DIME", and the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", alongside the "D" mint mark indicating its origin in Denver. This particular specimen survives in Extra Fine condition, preserving the fine details of Weinman's mid-century vision.
