The 1944 Walking Liberty half dollar stands as a classic example of mid-century American silver coinage. Struck at the Denver Mint, this fifty-cent piece is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. It represents a period of high-quality artistic design in circulating United States currency. The obverse of the coin presents a graceful depiction of Lady Liberty moving toward a rising sun, cradling a bundle of branches in her arm. This side bears the inscription of the year 1944 alongside the words IN GOD WE TRUST. On the reverse, an eagle is shown perched on a rocky outcrop, wings partially spread as if preparing for flight. The reverse inscriptions include UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and the denomination, HALF DOLLAR. This particular specimen is preserved in Fine to Very Fine condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation while retaining the essential details of Adolph Weinman's celebrated design.
