In 1944, the Philadelphia Mint produced a massive run of ten-cent pieces, striking over 231 million of them. Because these coins were minted in Philadelphia, they carry no mint mark. Each of these dimes was struck with a silver purity of 0.900, containing exactly 0.0723 troy ounces of the precious metal. The design of this series, created by Adolph Weinman, is celebrated for its artistic elegance. The front of the coin displays a youthful representation of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap adorned with wings, a feature that historically led to the popular "Mercury" nickname. The words "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "1944" are clearly visible on this side. On the reverse, the design showcases a fasces paired with an olive branch, symbolizing strength and peace, alongside the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM." This particular coin has been certified in Mint State 65 (MS-65) with the Full Bands designation. This designation indicates that the horizontal bands wrapping the fasces on the reverse are fully defined and separated, a rare characteristic that highlights the quality of the strike and the preservation of its original details.
