This ten-cent piece from 1944 offers a striking glimpse into mid-century American coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint during a year of massive production, this particular silver coin has survived in an exceptional state of preservation. It is composed of 90 percent silver, containing approximately 0.0715 troy ounces of the precious metal. What makes this specific specimen stand out to observers is its certified grade of Mint State 66 and the coveted Full Bands designation. On the reverse of the Mercury Dime series, the central design features a fasces wrapped in bands. On this coin, those horizontal bands are completely split and distinct, indicating an incredibly sharp, fully realized strike from the coin dies. This level of detail is rare, as the high points of the design often blended together during the high-speed minting process. The obverse displays the classic winged Liberty head, accompanied by the inscription "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the date "1944". The reverse features the olive branch and fasces, surrounded by the legends "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "ONE DIME", and the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". Because it was minted in Philadelphia, it bears no mint mark.
