Struck during the final years of World War II, this ten-cent silver piece from the San Francisco Mint represents a remarkably preserved survivor of mid-century American coinage. Crafted from 90 percent silver with a metal content of 0.0715 troy ounces, the coin belongs to the celebrated Mercury Dime series. Its design remains one of the most recognized and admired in United States numismatic history. This specific specimen has achieved an exceptional grade of Mint State 67 (MS-67) with the Full Bands designation. This designation indicates that the horizontal central bands binding the fasces on the reverse are completely split and distinct, a sign of an incredibly sharp and fully realized strike. Finding such crisp detail is rare, as the high-pressure minting process often left these central elements softly struck. The reverse of the coin features a bundle of rods bound around an ax, known as a fasces, symbolizing strength and unity. It is surrounded by the inscriptions UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DIME, and the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM. The small "S" mint mark identifies its origin at the San Francisco facility, which produced 49,490,000 dimes in 1944.
