During the final year of the Second World War, Canada produced a distinctive five-cent coin that departed from traditional coinage metals. Struck under the authority of King George VI, this piece is composed of chrome-plated steel, a choice reflecting the critical wartime diversion of copper and nickel to military manufacturing. This particular specimen survives in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserving the bright surfaces of its unconventional metal composition. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of King George VI, surrounded by the Latin inscription GEORGIVS VI D G REX ET IND IMP, denoting his title as King and Emperor of India.
