Struck in 1945 at the Denver Mint, this ten cent United States coin is a classic example of American silver coinage. Composed of 90 percent silver with a precious metal content of 0.0715 troy ounces, this piece is preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, capturing the intricate details of a design first introduced during a transformative era in the nation's history. The obverse of the coin presents a youthful depiction of Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. This distinct headwear, which historically symbolized freedom of thought, led to the popular but incorrect nickname of the Mercury Dime, as observers associated the wings with the Roman messenger god. Adolph Weinman designed this iconic imagery, pairing it with a reverse that features a fasces, which is a bound bundle of wooden rods with an emerging axe blade, alongside an olive branch.
