1945 Mercury Dime Good/VF
Struck in 90 percent silver, the 10-cent piece from 1945 represents the final year of a celebrated American design era. This coin contains 0.0715 troy ounces of precious metal. Because of its circulation history, you may notice signs of wear along the outer rim, which tells the story of its journey through mid-century commerce. The obverse displays Adolph Weinman's iconic portrait of a youthful Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap, a design that earned the coin its popular "Mercury" nickname. Surrounding the portrait are the inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "1945". On the reverse, the coin features a bundled fasces alongside an olive branch, symbolizing strength and peace. The inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination "ONE DIME". This particular piece was struck at the Philadelphia Mint, which did not use a mint mark at the time.
