During a period of global conflict, the United States altered the composition of its five cent piece. This 1945 issue from the Philadelphia Mint contains 0.0562 troy ounces of silver, representing a temporary departure from the traditional nickel alloy. The coin survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its original wartime manufacture. The obverse displays a profile of Thomas Jefferson, accompanied by the inscriptions of liberty and trust. On the reverse, Jefferson's historic home, Monticello, is depicted alongside the national motto and the denomination.
