Struck in 90 percent silver toward the end of the Second World War, this 1945 half dollar showcases one of the most celebrated designs in United States coinage. Created by designer Adolph Weinman, the coin captures the spirit of a nation moving forward during a pivotal mid-century era. The obverse presents a striking depiction of Lady Liberty draped in the American flag, walking gracefully toward a rising sun. She cradles branches of laurel and oak in her left arm, symbolizing both peace and strength, while her right hand is outstretched in a gesture of welcome. The year 1945 is clearly marked at the base, with the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" positioned in the field behind her. On the reverse, a magnificent eagle stands perched upon a rugged mountain crag, wings partially spread as if preparing for flight. A pine sapling grows from the rock, representing new life and growth. This side of the coin bears the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "HALF DOLLAR," and the traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
