In 1946, the United States Mint commemorated a century of Iowa statehood with a special silver half dollar. This commemorative coin, struck in 90% silver, carries 0.3617 troy ounces of precious metal. Initially distributed with a preference for Iowa residents before being opened to the wider public, the issue had a total mintage of 100,057 pieces. This specific example has survived in an extraordinary state of preservation, graded as a superb Mint State 67. The obverse of the coin displays the historic first stone capitol building located in Iowa City, serving as a symbol of the state's early governance and foundations. On the reverse, the design features the official Iowa State Seal, capturing the heritage and pride of the state at its centennial milestone.
