The year 1946 marked a significant transition for United States coinage with the introduction of a new ten-cent piece. Struck at the San Francisco Mint, this first-year Roosevelt dime is composed of 90% silver, containing approximately 0.0715 to 0.0723 troy ounces of precious metal. Preserved in brilliant uncirculated condition, it offers a crisp look at a design that has endured for decades. The obverse presents a profile of President Franklin D. Roosevelt, facing left. Surrounding his portrait are the classic American inscriptions of LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1946 date and the designer's initials, JS. The San Francisco origin is denoted by the S mint mark located on the reverse. On the reverse side, the design features three distinct symbols arranged side by side. An olive branch representing peace stands on the left, a central torch symbolizes liberty, and an oak branch representing strength is positioned on the right. Intertwined among these elements is the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, while the legends UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DIME frame the entire composition.
