The 1946 Walking Liberty half dollar stands as a marvelous example of mid-century American coinage. Struck in 90% silver, this fifty-cent piece contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen has been certified in Mint State 65 (MS-65) condition, preserving the intricate details of its celebrated design. On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted in mid-stride, walking gracefully toward a rising sun while cradling a bundle of branches. The year 1946 is anchored at the bottom, with the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" positioned in the right field. This side was designed by the renowned sculptor Adolph A. Weinman, whose vision captured a powerful sense of movement and optimism. Turning the coin over reveals a powerful eagle perched upon a rugged mountain crag, wings partially spread as if preparing to launch into flight. The traditional Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" is clearly visible on this reverse side. Because this piece was minted at the Philadelphia Mint, it does not display a mint mark, a traditional characteristic of the facility's output during this era.
