1947 Walking Liberty Half Dollar Fine/VF
Struck in 90 percent silver, this 1947 half dollar represents the final year of one of the most celebrated designs in United States coinage. The mid-century issue carries a precious metal content of 0.3575 troy ounces of silver, presenting a tangible link to the post-World War II era. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this specimen survives in Fine to Very Fine condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation while preserving the essential details of its historic artwork. The obverse showcases the famous design by Adolph Weinman, featuring Lady Liberty draped in the American flag as she strides gracefully toward a rising sun. In her arms, she cradles a bundle of oak and pine branches, symbolizing civil and military strength. The inscriptions "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the year "1947" are integrated into this powerful composition. On the reverse, Weinman composed a powerful image of an American bald eagle. The bird is depicted perched high upon a mountain crag, wings partially unfolded as if preparing to launch into flight. A sapling of mountain pine grows from the rock, representing the nation's spirit. The reverse is completed with the traditional inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA", "E PLURIBUS UNUM", and the denomination "HALF DOLLAR".
