Introduced in 1948 and struck until 1963, this United States half dollar represents the final half dollar series minted entirely in 90% silver before the transition to copper and nickel clad coinage. These coins, which were pulled directly from circulation, are preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, offering a clear look at a mid-twentieth-century classic. The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Benjamin Franklin designed by John Sinnock. Accompanying the likeness of this famous American statesman are the traditional inscriptions of "Liberty" and "In God We Trust". This design marked a departure from the allegorical figures of Liberty that had previously dominated United States silver coinage for decades. On the reverse, the central focus is the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle is depicted, satisfying the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse also features the traditional Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum" alongside the country name and the face value of "Half Dollar". Each coin contains 0.3617 ounces of actual silver weight, representing a bygone era of circulating precious metal.
