1948-1963 Franklin Half Dollar MS-64 NGC (Random)

0.3575 troy oz .900 MS-64 (NGC)

Introduced in the mid-twentieth century, the Franklin half dollar series ran from 1948 to 1963, offering a distinct departure from previous coinage designs. Struck in 90 percent silver, each of these coins contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. These pieces were produced at three different United States minting facilities, including Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco. The obverse of the coin presents a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, designed by John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the founding father's likeness are the inscriptions "LIBERTY" and "IN GOD WE TRUST", alongside the year of mintage. This clean, dignified profile captures a historic American figure who was never a president, making the denomination unique for its era. On the reverse, the design showcases the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with outstretched wings is visible, satisfying the legal requirement for the bird's depiction on the half dollar. The reverse is completed with the denomination and the traditional motto "E Pluribus Unum". This particular specimen is certified in Mint State 64 condition, preserving the intricate details of Sinnock's mid-century design.
