The year 1948 marked the debut of a new half dollar design for the United States, honoring one of the nation's most famous founding figures. Struck at the Denver Mint, this inaugural issue features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin on the obverse. Surrounding his profile are the traditional inscriptions of freedom and faith, with the date positioned clearly to his right. This silver coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal, combining historical tribute with classic silver composition. The reverse of the coin presents a detailed depiction of the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, while the traditional motto meaning "out of many, one" occupies the left field. The denomination is inscribed along the bottom curve.
