0.3575 troy oz .900 1948 Almost Unc

In 1948, the United States Mint introduced a new half dollar design that departed from the traditional allegorical figures of liberty, choosing instead to honor an actual historical individual. This mid-century silver coin features Benjamin Franklin, captured in a thoughtful right-facing profile. The obverse design, created by John R. Sinnock, pairs this portrait with the classic inscriptions of 'LIBERTY' and 'IN GOD WE TRUST', alongside the 1948 date. The reverse of the coin showcases a detailed depiction of the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, satisfying the legal requirement for the denomination. The reverse also bears the traditional Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum' and the face value of 'HALF DOLLAR'. Struck in 90% fine silver, each of these coins contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular coin survives in Almost Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of Sinnock's mid-century engraving from its initial year of issue.
