Struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1948, this silver half dollar represents the inaugural year of a classic American coin series. The coin is composed of 90 percent silver, containing 0.3575 troy ounces of the precious metal. This particular specimen has achieved a high certified grade of Mint State 65, and it carries the coveted Full Bell Lines designation, which indicates an exceptionally sharp and complete strike on the details of the reverse design. The obverse features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, one of America's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his likeness are the inscriptions for liberty and the national motto, alongside the 1948 date. Because it was minted in Philadelphia, the coin carries no mint mark. On the reverse, the iconic Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with spread wings is visible, a design element required by law.
