1949-D Franklin Half Dollar Fine/XF

0.3575 troy oz .900 1949 Fine or Better

In 1949, the Denver Mint produced a ninety percent silver half dollar that departed from traditional allegorical figures, opting instead to honor one of America's most famous founding fathers. The obverse presents a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, rendered by designer John R. Sinnock. Surrounding the philosopher and statesman are the inscriptions LIBERTY arching above and IN GOD WE TRUST positioned below, with the year 1949 placed to his right. The reverse of the coin shifts focus to a symbol of American freedom, displaying a detailed depiction of the Liberty Bell. To the left of the bell, the traditional motto E PLURIBUS UNUM is clearly inscribed, while an eagle with open wings stands to the right. The denomination, HALF DOLLAR, is anchored at the bottom, completing a design that carries a total of 0.3575 troy ounces of pure silver.
