1949 Franklin Half Dollar MS-65 PCGS (FBL)

0.3575 troy oz .900 1949 MS-65 (PCGS)

This 1949 half dollar represents an early entry in the classic Franklin series, struck in the United States from 90 percent silver. The coin contains 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal and was produced at the Philadelphia mint, meaning it carries no mint mark. This particular specimen has achieved a high certified grade of Mint State 65 (MS-65), indicating its superb preservation and original luster. The obverse displays a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin, one of America's most famous founding figures. Surrounding his likeness are the inscriptions LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, along with the 1949 date. John R. Sinnock designed this clean, dignified portrait, which broke from the tradition of using allegorical figures on circulating silver coinage. On the reverse, the iconic Liberty Bell takes center stage, complete with its famous crack. This specimen has earned the coveted Full Bell Lines (FBL) designation, which means the horizontal lines near the bottom of the bell are exceptionally sharp and fully defined, a rare feat for these strikes. To the left of the bell, the phrase E PLURIBUS UNUM is visible, while a small eagle with open wings stands on the right. The country name is inscribed above the bell, and the half dollar denomination is placed directly below it.
