0.3575 troy oz .900 1949 Almost Unc

In 1949, the San Francisco Mint produced a striking mid-century silver coin that departed from traditional allegorical figures. This fifty-cent piece features a right-facing portrait of Benjamin Franklin on its obverse, capturing the likeness of one of America's most famous founders. Surrounding the statesman are the classic inscriptions of freedom and faith, along with the mid-century date of production. The reverse side of this 0.900 fine silver coin displays the historic Liberty Bell, complete with its famous crack. To the right of the bell, a small eagle with outstretched wings stands as a traditional national symbol, satisfying the legal requirements of the era's coinage. The denomination of half dollar and the Latin motto meaning "out of many, one" are also clearly struck on this side, which bears the "S" mint mark of the San Francisco facility. Composed of 0.3575 troy ounces of precious metal, this coin represents a fascinating era in American numismatic design, envisioned by artist John R. Sinnock.
